It was announced a while back that Warner Bros was pursuing a cinematic prequel of sorts to The Shining, one that’s standing alone from Stephen King’s own similar project, Doctor Sleep.
The new Warner Bros film will be called The Overlook Hotel, and news has now broken that Glen Mazzara has been hired to write the screenplay for the film. Mazzara was, until the end of last year, the showrunner on The Walking Dead. That’s the show that has a habit of burning through showrunners – just ask Frank Darabont – but it’s freed Mazzara up to take on The Overlook Hotel job.
There’s still some way to go before the project makes it before the cameras, and there’s no director attached to the film yet. But we’ll keep you posted on this, and any advance on Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep as it makes its own journey to the screen.
